About yfull.ai

What is yfull.ai?

yfull.ai turns your haplogroup — the branch of the human family tree your paternal and maternal lines belong to — into a readable historical narrative. It's built and run by the team that has maintained the YFull research tree since 2014. You get a report that explains where your deep ancestry came from and how it moved through history, written in plain language.

How is yfull.ai different from yfull.com?

Same team, same tree. yfull.com is the research site where the Y-DNA and mtDNA tree is maintained; yfull.ai adds an AI-written historical-context layer on top of that same data. Your placement and your report draw on the same curated tree that powers yfull.com.

Will yfull.ai tell me about my health or disease risk?

No. yfull.ai gives you historical and genealogical context about your ancestry — where your paternal and maternal lines came from and how they moved over time. It is not a medical, clinical, or diagnostic service, and it does not assess health or disease risk.

What's actually in my report?

A two-part narrative for your haplogroup: a plain-language account of your deep ancestry and migrations, and a more detailed section with the research behind it. It covers the haplogroups we can determine from your sample — your paternal line (Y-DNA) and your maternal line (mtDNA).

Getting started

How do I sign up?

Create an account with your email, confirm you're 18 or older, and place your sample. From there, a subscription delivers your report. You can start from the sign-up page.

Do I need to buy a DNA test from yfull.ai?

No. yfull.ai places and interprets Y-chromosome data you already have. You bring results from a test you've taken; you don't buy a new kit from us.

Why do I have to confirm I'm 18 or older?

yfull.ai processes genetic data, which GDPR treats as a special category of personal data. We ask every account holder to confirm they're 18 or older when they sign up.

Placement & pricing

How much does yfull.ai cost?

Two parts: a one-time €15 placement fee that puts your sample on the yfull.ai tree, and a €5-per-year subscription that delivers and maintains your report. If you're joining from yfull.com, your placement is already included — you only need the subscription.

What is "placement"?

Placement is the one-time step where we classify your Y-chromosome data, work out your haplogroup, and add your sample to the yfull.ai tree. It's a single €15 fee — there's no recurring charge for placement.

What's the difference between the €15 placement and the €5 subscription?

Two separate things: the one-time €15 placement puts your sample on the yfull.ai tree; the €5-a-year subscription delivers and maintains your report. If you joined from yfull.com, your placement is already included — you only need the subscription.

How can I pay?

By card or with PayPal. You choose at checkout.

Your report

Do I need the subscription to see my report?

Yes. The €5-a-year subscription is what delivers your report and keeps it current. Your sample can be placed on the tree without it, but the report stays locked until you subscribe.

When will my report be ready?

Your report is prepared after your sample is placed and you've subscribed. You can follow its progress in your account — it moves through classification, generation, and a review step before it's ready to read.

Subscription & updates

What does the €5-a-year subscription include?

Your full haplogroup report and up to two updates a year as new research is published. The price is the same for everyone — €5 a year, whether you're new to yfull.ai or joining from yfull.com.

What is an "update"?

A new version of your report with newly published research added. Your genetic analysis is not reprocessed — only new scientific findings are added.

Why "up to" two updates a year?

You'll get an update when significant new research affects your part of the tree — up to two a year. Some years there may be two; some years fewer. The price stays €5 either way.

Can I cancel?

Any time — there's no minimum term and no cancellation fee. Your subscription stays active until the end of the year you've paid for, then it won't renew. You keep the report you already have; you just stop receiving new updates.

What happens when my subscription ends?

You can still read the report you already have. You just won't receive new updates until you resubscribe — your report isn't taken away.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are available within 14 days of payment, as long as your sample hasn't yet been placed on the tree. Once approved, we issue your refund to your original payment method without undue delay; it then usually takes a further 5–10 business days to reach your account, depending on your bank. I'm already a yfull.com customer — do I pay for placement again?

No. If you join from yfull.com, your placement is already included — you only need the €5-a-year subscription to receive and maintain your report.

Your data & privacy

Is my DNA data safe? What do you actually store?

yfull.ai works with haplogroup labels and limited metadata — not your raw genetic sequence. Your account and stored data stay on servers in the EU. To write your report, some of that limited data (pseudonymized — without your name attached) may be processed by vetted AI providers outside the EU, under GDPR-approved safeguards. What consents do you ask me for?

A core consent to process your Y-DNA for your placement and report, plus a few optional ones — for example, linking to yfull.com, cross-border processing, or messaging. You manage them all in your account and can withdraw any optional consent at any time.

Your rights

Can I get a copy of my data?

Yes. You can request a machine-readable export of your data, and we respond within one month. You can start a request from your account.

Can I delete my account and data?

Yes — you have the right to erasure under Article 17 of the GDPR. Self-service deletion isn't available yet; for now, you can make the request through our data protection contact. See the Privacy Notice for how to get in touch.

How do I reach you about data protection?

AI & how it works

Is yfull.ai run by AI?

Yes. yfull.ai is an AI-first service: content, customer support, and operations are handled by specialized AI agents. One thing is always handled by a person — your data protection rights. If a question needs a human, a human answers.

How do I know what's AI-generated?

Your report carries a clear "AI-generated" label, and you're told you're interacting with AI before you begin. This follows Article 50 of the EU AI Act, which we apply ahead of its effective date.
